This talk summarizes the reasons why people are insensitive to omissions and summarizes procedures for improving judgment and decision making by increasing sensitivity to omissions.
The Brand Positivity Effect
Office Hours Live with Drew Boyd

I joined Drew Boyd’s podcast with Frank Kardes to discuss our research on the Brand Positivity Effect, a cognitive bias that leads consumers to judge a focal brand more favorably simply because it stands out. We tested whether impulsivity amplifies this effect, but our findings show that the bias remains just as strong regardless of impulsivity levels. This reinforces the power of selective processing, or the tendency to focus on information supporting the focal option while neglecting alternatives. Our conversation explores why this effect is so persistent and what it reveals about how consumers make decisions.
